[実車解説] The development of rail armoured units is consistent with the german tendency to limit armoured trains in favor of lighter, more flexible units operating either alone or in group, according to the mission. These new units were formed by trains of two times five light draisines (Le. Sp.) or of eleven heavy reconnaissance draisines (S.Sp.) which were made by the Steyr company. The heavy units were formed of armed draisines, command draisines with antennas and draisines with a tank turret, and of 2 tank-carrier railroad cars, like those of BP42 and BP44 with2 PzKpFw38. Besides these, the complete train should have included two anti-aircraft draisines armed with a 20 mm flakvierling 38 and which were never made. The artillery draisine was equipped with a PzKpFw III Ausf. N turret with a short 75 mm gun. The crew of an armoured train included 5 officers, 34 non-coms and 98 rank and file. The units which were equipped with heavy draisines were the panzerzug 201 which was crated on January 5th 1944, then the panzerzug 202,203 and 204 created the same year, which all fought in the Balkans. |
