[実車解説] 第二次世界大戦中の1943年、当時Ⅲ号突撃砲を生産していたアルケット社は連合軍の空爆により生産施設が大損害を受けた。そのため、Ⅲ号突撃砲の生産が大幅に低下したため代替車輌の配備が急務になった。 そこで、Ⅳ号戦車（H／J型）の車体にⅢ号突撃砲の戦闘室を搭載した、Ⅳ号突撃砲の生産が開始された。 Ⅳ号突撃砲は、1945年4月までに総計で1,108輌が生産され各戦線で活躍した。 From March 1943 Guderian proposed Hitler to allocate the assault guns to the tank battalions and armoured divisions. In order to ease the troubles caused by the maintenance and the spare parts it had been decided to develop an assault gun using the basis of the Pz.KpfW IV. A prototype was worked out in November 1943 and shown to Hitler on the 16th of December that very year. After a satisfactory demonstration an order was placed on the spot. The fundamentals of this vehicle were the hull of the Stug. III adapted onto a Panzer IV chassis and several major improvements. Although the Jagdpanzer IV built with the same chassis showed superior performances, the production of the assault gun was carried out until December 1944 and totalised approximately 1000 units. |
